High School Level

HS Classic Literature - Study classic novels, poetry and short stories. Novels are a mix of historical, dystopian, or sci-fi. Book discussions every 3 weeks, with an essay due for each book.

HS Historical Literature - Study various countries and time periods throughout history as we read books such as The Hiding Place, Scarlet Pimpernel, Cry the Beloved Country, Things Fall Apart, The Book Thief, The Rent Collector, with essays and/or presentations due every couple weeks.

Research Essay Writing - Learn how to research online and at the library, to interview, to develop and express your own opinions, and to make relevant connections to pop culture. Connect it all together in one compelling essay! Students will be taught proper MLA format.

Psychology & Mental Wellness - Learn about human behavior and clinical diagnoses, focusing on real stories in books and film. Then discuss lifestyle habits for wellness and how to overcome your own challenges.

Leadership & Personal Development - Discover who you are and what gifts you have to offer the world! Discuss stress management, exercise and nutrition, and learn tools to improve yourself. Study leaders in history and what made them great, then discuss how we can emulate their characteristics.

LEMI Pyramid Project or Think Like a Scientist - What is truth and where do you find it? This class examines science from a whole new perspective! Learn about the great minds of history and how they discovered universal laws. What are the habits of a scientist you can practice in your own life?

Christian Heroes - Read memoirs of modern converts to Christianity all over the world. Discuss those who were instrumental to the reformation and other eras of Christianity. Students will give devotionals and presentations, and turn in essays with their takeaways, as we strive to embody the qualities we see modeled.

Math - only remedial/ middle school level available.

Middle School Level
Math - Learn 6th, 7th, 8th grade math skills, or basics for remedial teens.

Intermediate Writing - Learn to write descriptive, narrative, informative and persuasive essays. Grammar and punctuation will be taught, but format and voice will not be nit-picked. Students are encouraged to let their personality shine through!

History Through Literature - Study books such as Angel on the Square, Gold Rush Girl, Fever 1793, Number the Stars, Red Scarf Girl, and A Night Divided. Discuss issues during these time periods and develop your own opinions, expressing them in essays.

Countries & Cultures - Study various countries, learning about their language, culture, geography, architecture, as we read books such as The Big Wave, Esperanza Rising, The Rent Collector and more. Students will take turns presenting on different countries.

Creative Writing - Have fun writing poetry and mini stories according to various prompts provided by classmates! Learn to develop character, use irony and symbolism. Discuss character arcs and world building. Learn how to edit grammar and punctuation.

Film and Essay Writing - A fun way to learn writing! Watch a film for homework every other week, then turn in an essay on alternate weeks. In class we discuss the film as a piece of literature—characters, conflict, resolution, themes, life lessons, principles.

Psychology - Discuss the functioning of the brain, limbic system, and nervous system; learn about executive skills; discuss perception and conditioning. Learn what makes a healthy mind and how it might go astray. Debate ideas from the great psychologists in history.

Zoology - Learn animal classification, scientific naming of various species and how they were discovered. Read classics in wildlife research and learn about real people who have studied in the wild. Students present on an animal of their choice in each category and debate ethical issues in animal rights.

Finance & Entrepreneurship - Identify your marketable skills and develop confidence to start a business. Learn about marketing, target demographics, efficiency, finances, credit and capital, whether you sell a service or product. Mastermind with classmates to solve obstacles you face as you grow your business.

Upper Elementary (ages 9-12)

Reading Revival - A homework-free class for reluctant readers or inexperienced writers. We will discuss stories we all know, analyzing literary elements and finding true principles, then write together as a team, learning skills together as we go.

Beginning Writing - Learn grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Write team essays and stories with the class. Learn to write organized paragraphs with topic sentences, write poetry and stories, and outline a 5-paragraph essay on your own.

Beginning Literature - Study short stories, poetry, and novels. Read a novel (reading level 5-6) every 2-3 week and discuss in class, learning true principles and some vocabulary. Write your opinions and applications as you respond to each novel!

Math - Learn 4th or 5th grade math skills.
